MATTERS ARISING:
Speed Watch: Eight people from Oake had attended a training session with the Police at Kingston St. Mary. This was found to be extremely useful and interesting. The purchase of a ‘speed gun’ was agreed and S.C.Cllr. Mrs. Caroline Smeaton offered funding up to £450. The Chairman thanked Mrs. Smeaton and said this will help greatly with the cost of the ‘gun’ and the setting up of the scheme. The Clerk was asked to go ahead with the purchase of the equipment, this was proposed by Cllr. Gill and seconded by Cllr. Paul, all agreed.
Seat outside the school: Awaiting oak timber slats to be delivered..
ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION:
B.T. Callbox proposals: Both Oake and Hillcommon telephone boxes are under threat of removal, figures show that between April 2007 and March 2008 the call box at Hillcommon was not used at all and the call box outside the school at Oake was used only 13 times during that period, it was on the basis of this information that the Parish Council felt they would have difficulty in coming out against the removal of these boxes.
SALC event/Blears heralds a new era of ‘parish power’: This item was given for information and would really only affect larger or town parish councils. It was felt no action need be taken.
Bus Shelter : It had been reported that the bus shelter was in a shabby and dirty condition , it was agreed to purchase some wood treatment and Cllr. Gill kindly offered to treat the timber with this.
Planning Training: Cllrs. were informed that a training session for Councillors would take place on the 14 th July at 6.00pm at Taunton Deane, anyone interest should go along, it was mainly aimed at those Councils operating the Parish delegation system.
Notice Boards: Taunton Deane are offering for sale notice boards which have been used around Taunton as yellow leisure boards. The Clerk to ascertain the cost of removal and any repairs which the Parish Council would have to cover.
